Ismael “Mike” Juarez, 80, a resident of Marfa, entered his heavenly reward on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Big Bend Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving and beloved family.
Mike, as he was known to his family and friends, was born on July 22, 1938 to Mr. Adam Juarez and Mrs. Paulita Cortez.
Praying of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, September 14 at 7pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Saturday, September 15 at 2pm with Father Beto Lopez serving as Celebrant. Burial will be in Merced Cemetery.
Honoring Mike by serving as pallbearers are Charles Simpson, Felix Rodriguez, Willie Hernández, Aaron Garcia, Sammy Roman, and Tony Carrillo. Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Nacho Parras, Michael Spitzer, Willie Quintana, Mateo Quintana, Belen Garcia, Roger Sanchez, Matthew Nuñez, Aurelio Tarin, Ricky Rojo, Frank Quintana, and Ismael Quintana.
Mike worked 56 years for Baeza Feeds Inc. and formerly Godbold Feeds in Marfa under several different owners. Mike was so dedicated to his job, that he rode his bike to and from work daily.
Mike had a zest for life. He loved people, and they loved him back; everywhere Mike went and in all that he did, he cared about people and helped them in any way he could. Mike was very generous and thoughtful. He enjoyed babysitting and assisting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever he could. Family, animals, dancing, listening to music, swimming, eating, walking, watching Gunsmoke, and cheering for the Oakland Raiders brought Mike great happiness.
Those left to cherish and honor the memory of Mike is his wife of 47 years, Mary Elsie Juarez; his daughter, Sarah S. Vasquez; his granddaughters Raquel Nuñez, and Kayla Vasquez; his great grandchildren Zola Nuñez, and Zane Collins; several nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved friends.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Billy Cortez, and Francisco Cortez; four sisters, Hortencia Chavaria, Alicia Mata, Irene Roman, and Rosa Ontiveros. Mike is also preceded in death by his beloved fur child Dixie, who he loved dearly.
The Juarez family has entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with arrangements.
