Fisher earns doctorate in Russian literature
Dr. Amanda Fisher recently received her PhD from Indiana University, Bloomington, in Russian literature. She specializes in the effects of reading/writing instruction on different types of literature. An accomplished violinist with an undergraduate degree in music performance, she has performed numerous times locally. She is active as a volunteer at the Dirks-Anderson Elementary School in Fort Davis in the reading program under Principal Allison Scott of Marfa, as a participant in several book discussion groups in the area, and as a board member for the Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County. Her husband, Dr. Steven Janowiecki, is an astronomer at McDonald Observatory. They moved to the observatory last summer from Perth, Australia, where he was a post-doctoral researcher at University of Western Australia. The West Texas communities congratulate Dr. Fisher on her accomplishment.
